Goal Setting - Small Steps Towards Great Success
The discipline of setting and achieving goals can assist greatly in encouraging you to develop your self confidence. Consequently, you learn new skills and become motivated to do more with your life.
For example, if you are a parent, you might find that it helps to set goals in regard to your self esteem. You may have already done this in your approach to weaning or potty training.
In fact, it is important to remember that we all undergo a learning process just in becoming fully functioning adults - in many respects your first success story! Hence our approach to self improvement, and ultimately our own experience of learning, growing and developing is fundamental to our ability to harness the ‘challenge’ of further self improvement.
1. Visualise Success
Thinking about what success means to you, and visualising the impact it will have on your life will help you with achieving your goals en route. This may sound simple, but it is in fact an incredibly powerful tool, since it is what you believe you can do, that you will do. As they say ‘dream it, believe it, achieve it’!
So imagine yourself doing the thing you really want to do, think of the smells and sights and sounds that you would experience. How do you feel? What you think about is what you become, so the more you think about your goals the more they happen.
2. Have a Success Coach
If you are going to succeed in your mission to be a success story, you will need a success coach to help you. Ask somebody who you respect and trust if they will help you to achieve your goals. If possible, ask somebody who has already achieved goals that are the same. For example, if you want to be a great athlete, find the best runner you know and ask them how they got to be so fast! You don’t have to copy them, but you will learn from them. Find out what they did, and how they think, and see if that’s a fit for you. Ask them to advise you! Learning about their experience will save you a great deal of time.
3. Take Consistent Action
Do you REALLY want that success enough to achieve your goals? Then you must take action. Not just every so often, or when you feel like it, but as often as you can. If you can work each day on your goals, you will soon find that you get closer to them as time goes by. The journey may seem long, but if you travel a little each day, you will make great progress! Inch by inch it’s a cinch, yard by hard it’s hard!
Once again, think back to your childhood. Your walk of life began with one small step, and one small step can lead to great strides.
A Bonus Tip – Challenge Yourself and Keep Focused
If you always do what you’ve always done you’ll always get what you’ve always got!
For you to successfully achieve what you want, you need to be open to reviewing your goals. Could it be worthwhile considering if heading down a slightly different path might be advantageous?
